In samples with constituents of differing hardnesses this is normally necessary. These recommendations have been compiled on the basis of our experience with common materials. Due to the large variety of alloys and material compositions, optimal results may require slight deviations from the above table in some cases. It is possible, in principle, to miss out individual grit sizes, but this mostly results in longer polishing times which may cause relief formation.
