And, even if for the moment, the level of technical education between the North and the South also differs, the trend is toward improvement. Organizations around the world are helping future generations of experts build an inclusive, sustainable Global South and understand how to make the most of the fusion of ancestral know-how and innovative modern techniques. This is embodied by the Sustainable Development Training Center in Morocco. Located near Marrakesh, this center expresses its ambition in its very design: built from earth and wood, it aims to facilitate the union between traditional know-how and modern technologies, right through to passive design mechanisms. There is also the ELLA network incorporating partners in Latin America, Africa and South Asia. The network conducts interregional comparative research and promotes exchanges between countries in the Global South on practices and methodologies aimed at creating cities that can withstand climate change. In Cape Town, South Africa, authorities have invested heavily to upgrade 2,300 homes, insulate them and fit them with solar water heaters. Sure enough, the energy bills of the occupants have fallen considerably, and their health has improved. The entire local economy has also benefited from this investment as the residents have been trained in how to carry out the renovations themselves. While the level of technical education varies between the North and the South, the trend is toward improvement. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + 45 CONSTRUCTING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
