CONSTRUCTING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION OBSERVATORY How is sustainable construction perceived around the world? To find out, CSA (Consumer Science & Analytics) conducted a survey for Saint-Gobain between November 2022 and January 2023. There were 802 respondents aged 18 and over, divided between professionals in the construction, architecture, housing, environment and ecological transition sectors, as well as students, members of associations and local public representatives. Participants came from 10 countries: Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, France, South Africa, Japan, India, Brazil and the United States. The aim of this first Sustainable Construction Barometer is to help the different stakeholders accelerate the path to sustainable construction. The Barometer is rich in information and reveals that the entire industry is aware of the need to change its practices to meet the major societal and environmental challenges facing the world. However, perception, priorities and level of maturity differ depending on the audience (elected officials, professionals, students, etc.) and the country of origin. Finally, it appears that it remains essential to inform and train all stakeholders, given the many aspects of sustainable construction, but also the economic obstacles that exist. These results also strengthen our conviction that in order to fully measure its positive impact, sustainable construction must be considered holistically. It certainly relates to climatic and environmental issues, but also to health and wellbeing. 78 SAINT-GOBAIN
