CONSTRUCTING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

How important is it to implement more sustainable construction? The positive news for the future is that students are overwhelmingly (94%) familiar with the concept of sustainable construction. Geographically, respondents from the northern hemisphere are the most comfortable with the concept (88%). That’s especially true in the European Union, a region of the world where regulation is actively fostering this approach to construction. A desire to accelerate is strongly expressed in the Global South. Brazil, South Africa and India are particularly eager to make sustainable construction an absolute priority (73%). This approach is shared by students (75%) and associations (77%), two segments that have historically been sensitive to housing-related issues. In contrast, elected officials and professionals are more reserved (65% and 63%) with respect to the importance of a sustainable construction approach.
