Constructing a Sustainable Future #3

(1) Scope 1 concerns direct emissions (e.g. from fuel for company vehicles) while scope 2 covers indirect energy-related emissions (e.g. from electricity consumption). (2) Source: Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). Quantifying indirect emissions too Scaling up innovations for a more sustainable building also means adopting a new way of managing the carbon footprint of buildings across their entire life cycle. Traditionally, companies focus on their direct emissions (scope 1) and those linked to energy consumption (scope 2)(1). However, scope 3, which covers indirect emissions linked to their supply chains and use of their products, accounts for an average of 75% of the total carbon footprint. Consideration of indirect carbon emissions is essential for a more complete assessment and for effective reduction of emissions(2). SPOTLIGHT 66
