Constructing a Sustainable Future #3

FRANCE New buildings with “indeterminate use” BLACK SWANS IN STRASBOURG. Thinking about the life cycle of buildings means imagining “buildings with indeterminate use”. This term, registered by French architect Anne Démians and property developer Icade, proposes a crucial approach to real estate recyclability at a time when cities are going through increasingly rapid cycles of change in which the needs and uses of buildings are changing. Black Swans in Strasbourg (France) consists of three buildings, currently used as offices and a hotel, but which could easily be converted into housing in the future. This transformation could be carried out at reduced cost, without any structural work, simply because the buildings were designed without any specific use in mind. © Martin Argyrolo INSPIRING PROJECTS 75
