ABRASIVE TYPES
ALUMINIUM OXIDE A/O – ZMD ALOX
Most popular for general applications, mild steel, low carbon steel and other ferrous metals. Good performance
and economical. Fast Cutting and long life. Available in Durable Y-weight 2-ply polyester backing and new
grain coating for longer life and faster cut rate on moderately-demanding applications. Can be used on flat
or contoured surfaces.
ALUMINIUM OXIDE A/O PLUS – ZMD ALOX PLUS
Economic product for use on steel and alloys, aluminium and heat-sensitive metals.
Supersized coating with grinding aids running cooler and more efficiently.
ZIRCONIA – ZMD ZIR
High stock removal on coarse grits, performs well on stainless steel. Zirconia’s inherent feature of cooler cutting
when grinding makes it a much more durable and hard wearing grain than aluminium oxide and less likely to
discolour stainless steel. Use heavy pressure for optimum performance. Available in Durable, Y-wt, 2-ply polyester
backing stands up to demanding applications.
ZIRCONIA PLUS – ZMD ZIR PLUS
High stock removal with cool action on stainless steel, titanium and nimonics. Supersized coating with grinding
aids running cooler and more efficiently. High pressure required to get optimum performance. Available in Heavy
Y-weight polyester backing provides excellent durability and grain adhesion.
CERAMIC – ZMD CERAMIC
Micron size particles break off during grinding producing many, new, self sharpening cutting points. Very high
and fast stock removal on exotic and hard alloys, stainless steel and titanium. Outlasts A/O and Zirconia in
many applications. Runs cooler than conventional A/O and Zirconia. Available in 3-ply heavy-duty laminate discs
(Y-weight polyester yellow backing) are more aggressive; for greatest durability, longest life, and edge-fray
resistance on tough applications and stainless steel.
CERAMIC FIBRE – ZMD FIBRE CERAMIC
The fibre backing makes this product a tough performing disc resisting tearing which allows the product to
perform to its optimum. Ceramic is perfect for those applications that require a firm aggressive disc and rapid
stock removal. High pressure required for optimum performance. Available in heaviest fiber backing for greater
stock removal, longer life and edge-fray resistance.
FLEXBRITE (NON WOVEN) – ZMD SCM
A non-woven synthetic fibre mesh, impregnated with abrasives and bound with resins – for surface preparation
applications such as de-burring, blending, cleaning and corrosion removal. This versatile disc can blend weld
seams, remove imperfections on metal surfaces and is ideal for creating decorative finishes. Designed for use
where stock removal is not required.
There are three colour coded grades available:
• Brown – Coarse (K46-K60)
• Maroon – Medium (K80-K120)
• Blue – Fine (K180-K240)
For these types see FLEXBRITE section.
UNITIZED DISCS
Constructed from compressed non woven web, specialised resin and grain to produce high performance finishing
products. Excellent for light deburring of flashing and threads, blending alloys, polishing & finishing. Unitized discs
are used widely in the preparation of metal surfaces. Unitized discs hold their shape well and do not undercut
or gouge which limits accidental damage to the component.
For these types see FLEXBRITE section.
STRIPPA DISCS – ZMD STRIPPA DISCS
Nylon webbing construction provides a unique combination of aggressive performance, long life and improved
finish. Ideal for surface refinishing, cleaning and blending and is a cost effective and safer alternative to a wire
wheel. Excellent for rust, paint, scale & coatings removal on a variety of substrates including metal, stone, wood
& plastics. Essential maintenance tool in shipyards, heavy plant engineering, steelworks and construction.
Particularly efficient in Automotive After Market for removal of fillers and paint stripping.
Also use with 75mm Blue Holder for cost efficient, versatile Quick Change maintenance product on a 115mm
angle grinder with an M14 thread. For these types see FLEXBRITE section.
